BBC Juniors Take Home the Hardware
Thursday, 02 June 2016 18:09

chicago_super_regional_16The BBC Junior Team had a strong showing over Memorial Day weekend at the Midwest Super Regional in Chicago with many players taking home medals and showing improvement. As excitement and anticipation builds towards the Jr Nationals (hosted by us, July 2-10) this tournament proved to be a great momentum-builder for our juniors, who represented 20 of the 369 players in attendance.

The hard work and dedication of travelling and competing is paying off as there were 15 instances where either a BBC junior was seeded, or upset a seeded opponent.

Over the long weekend William Hu and Adrian Unruh exhibited standout performances as they reached all three semi-finals in U15 and U17 respectively. Adrian placed fourth in singles and claimed silver in doubles as well as in mixed doubles with fellow teammate, Annette Lam. William left footprints all over the podium winning third in mixed with teammate Abigail Li, second in singles in a very close three-game match, and first in doubles with Sri Kolla of the Northern Virginia Badminton Club.

Other notable finishes include Melinda Guo and Annette Lam winning third place in U17 girls doubles, and Elias Frausing and Eric Fan winning third place in U17 boys doubles. Jerry Song and Jared Lai rounded out the team’s superb play by reaching the semi-finals in U19 boys doubles and claiming fourth. The final results can be viewed here:

One month of training and fine-tuning remains until the Jr Nationals where the BBC Junior Team will be more motivated than ever to play hard and fight in front of the home crowd. Volunteer opportunities are still available from video streaming to transportation to umpiring and lunch coordination. Sign up to volunteer!

BBC Juniors to Compete at JIT
Monday, 07 March 2016 13:02

jr panam teamFour Juniors from team BBC are set to compete at the Junior International Trials (JIT) this month in Southern California. The best of the best will meet at the Los Angeles Badminton Club March 25-28 to fight for a spot on the USA Junior National Team.

From the Bellevue Badminton Club, William Hu, Annette Lam, Ben Chen, and Adrian Unruh have qualified to play in the trials. These juniors have traveled to many tournaments throughout the years to compete and earn enough ranking points to be considered some of the best in the country. With a spot on the national team at stake, the tournament is often considered even more difficult than the Junior Nationals because of the format. Over four days players will battle it out in a round robin with other top players and teams before advancing to the knockout stage. It is not uncommon for some players to play 6-7 tough matches each day.

The top finishers of each event will have the opportunity to represent the United States at the Junior Pan American Championships (this year in Peru), and the Junior World Championships (This year in Spain). It is a great honor to be selected to the team as have Adrian Unruh and Ben Chen been in the past. We wish our juniors the best of luck in the trials and the last few weeks of preparation before they fly out.

Updated League Software
Tuesday, 10 March 2015 18:17

Dear Members and League Players,

We will be changing over to a new league software to run our existing leagues here at BBC. The Bellevue Badminton Club and Badminton America have teamed up to provide you a more quality and meaningful league experience. The leagues will remain in the same format and schedule you are accustomed to, but will be managed with a more comprehensive way of rating each player to ensure higher quality matches.

If you play in the leagues or would like to start playing in the leagues, you will need to have an account on the Badminton America Ratings site, which will be used for our weekly leagues.

Click the following link to create an account:

A new and updated version of the website will go live before March 17th, which will be the first day of leagues on the new and improved Badminton America Site. Once the update occurs you will be able to register for your weekly leagues on the new software (You will not be able to register quite yet, but now worries! We will keep you posted). You will not have to do anything yet on the site except make sure you have an account.

In review:

1) If you plan on playing leagues, make sure you have an account on Badminton America.

2) Stay tuned for information on how to register for your leagues once the new site goes live.

Please be patient with us through this process as we transfer to a new system for leagues. We are confident the new Badminton America Rating site will provide a more quality league experience. Please let us know of any questions you may have regarding the signup process.

Thank you, and see you on the courts!
