It has been over a year and a half since implementing our current training structure and we have seen great improvement and advancements in our students. As we constantly review our processes to see where we can improve, we will be making the following changes:
- We will add two new levels within our training program (Kids/Teens Beginner 2 & Competitive Intermediate).
- We will rename our class names to fit the new classes to make it easier to comprehend.
- We will revamp our Competitive Program to improve the quality of our training.
1. Two New Levels
The first new level will be a level in between our current Fundamentals class and Beginners class (Kids/Teens Beginner 2).
The second new level will be a competitive Intermediate class.

3. Competitive Program
We will be adding Competitive Intermediate to help those who want to start training to become competitive players earlier in their training journey. We see a lot of enthusiastic and hard-working students who will benefit from a more focused environment and aim to nurture their competitive spirit earlier on!
To join Competitive Intermediate (or levels higher in the competitive program), students must be in Intermediate 2 (or higher) and apply with a letter of recommendation by their current Bellevue Badminton Club coach. For 2023 Session 1, we will be sending invitations out to those who we see are qualified.
Competitive & High Performance
Our current policies for our Competitive Program require students in Competitive Advanced, High Performance 3, High Performance 2, and High Performance 1 to train a minimum of three group training sessions per week as well as play key tournaments locally and abroad. Moving up in level was based on performance, training attitude, and effort.
We will be making the following changes:
Competitive Students (Competitive Intermediate & Competitive Advanced)
- Competitive Students must train a minimum of two group training sessions per week.
- One of the two training sessions must be our physical training class. Every student in our competitive program is required to attend at least one physical training class per week.
- Competitive Intermediate students are not required to compete in any tournaments but must participate in the Junior Ladder on Sunday in Bellevue.
- Competitive Advanced students are required to compete in at least one local tournament each year and must participate in the HP ladder on Saturday in Renton.
High Performance (HP 3, HP 2, & HP 1)
- HP Students must train a minimum of two group training sessions per week.
- One of the two training sessions must be our physical training class. Every student in our competitive program is required to attend at least one physical training class per week.
- HP students are required to compete in at least one local tournament and one USAB Open Regional level or higher tournament.
Exceptions may apply with Head Coach’s approval.
Competitive Program Move-Ups
We will continue to stress the importance of training quality in our program. We will add the emphasis on feeding as one of the highest priorities on our list to determine which level the student will be in. The level of feeding, both multi-shuttle and one-shuttle drills, provides the most value in a training class. We will not move up students over the argument of needing to be pushed but move up students because they can add value to the next level. Students must be able to formulate an adequate training environment for their training partners and in return, their partners can do the same for them.
We will continue to grow our program and hope these changes can help our students improve to the best of their ability and expand their potential.
